Sales of the iPad 2 were through the roof, leaving many stores iPad-less, and many iPad-2-hungry customers willing to pay exorbitant amounts on eBay. Online sales were backed up to two to three weeks before the iPad 2 was even available in retail stores. Analysts say the iPad 2 sold 500,000 units in its first day alone.  Then, Apple announced that shipments would be pushed back to four to fives weeks. Today, we have good news for those waiting for your new iPad 2. Apple has moved the ship date to three to four weeks.

We know this is only an improvement of a week, but it may be a sign that Apple’s finally starting to catch up with the heavy demand. The iPad 2 sold out completely at retail stores in the U.S. in just its first weekend, and stores have slowly replenished their stock over the past few weeks. There was some speculation that the wait for the tablet could be extended even more due to the effects of the Japanese earthquake. Many of the components in the iPad 2 are manufactured in Japan, and though Apple says it won’t be a problem, there’s good cause to be concern.

A report from the Far East last week indicated Apple’s manufacturing partner, Foxconn, had enough components stockpiled to continue assembling the iPad 2 for at least two to three weeks. But what happens after that time? Could Apple run out of iPad 2s? Perhaps there’s no need to worry, as those concerns aren’t validated by Apple, and availability seems to be improving, which is evidenced by the improved shipping estimates.

International orders were said to still be on track for launching on Friday, March 25 in about a dozen countries.  Estimated ship time for international orders is between two to three weeks, which is even better than the US.

AppleInsider said numerous readers have told them that their iPad 2 online order has shipped ahead of schedule. Did you get your iPad 2 earlier than expected?
